How do I re-frame?

bit-size tipsQuite often, when were thinking about trying a new adventure, or stretching ourselves a little bit, we imagine that the results of failure will be devastating.

Obviously, in some situations, that may be a possibility. In most cases though, the results of failure are more likely to be a dent in our pride.

This bite-size tip is simply to help you re-frame your doubt, by asking the simple question….

“What honestly, is the worst that can happen?”

Re-frame your fearIn almost all cases you’ll find that the devastation your mind helped you to imagine, is actually never going to happen.

The problem’s caused by our fear of the unknown. When we’re asked to do something we haven’t done before, our mind fills with all of the ‘worst case scenarios’, then presents them as facts to our conscious mind.

This ‘vision’ will, in most cases stop us trying this ‘unsafe’ practice and our mind is happy again.

Clearly, the process behind this effect is dependant on the priorities you’ve subconsciously assigned to the ‘six human needs‘. Everyone’s hierarchy is slightly different and will affect how often this effect happens.

However, when it does, consider what’s the worst that can happen, then re-frame the question and ask “what will this experience give me?”

Once you’ve made yourself aware of the likely bad outcomes and you’ve identified the benefits, you can make an educated judgement about whether or not to try it.

By identifying the actual possible outcomes, allows you to feel calmer about doing the activity. And sometimes, it’s worth trying even if it could possibly be dangerous.
